Submission Guideline

March, 2018

1.

Chinese Journal of Psychology (CJP) is a double-blind, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original articles, literature reviews, and case reports. The focus is on the empirical studies of human mind and behavior.

2.

CJP is published quarterly in March, June, September, and December. CJP welcomes manuscripts from authors all over the world.

3.

Submitted manuscripts, including invited and unsolicited articles, must be original. When a manuscript is submitted, the authors understand it is contributed solely to CJP. Articles previously published or currently under review by another journal are not considered. To be considered for publication, authors are required to obtain permission for all copyrighted materials used in the manuscripts.

4.

Manuscript preparation

Articles must be written in English or in Chinese (traditional, not simplified), use Word file format with 12-point font size, double-space text, and leave right margins unjustified. All manuscripts must be prepared according to Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). CJP only accepts electronic submission via the CJP online submission system. The manuscript must include the following information:

       ( 1 )   A title;

       ( 2 )  Author information including the author’s full name, affiliation(s), telephone

               numbers, and e-mail address. The corresponding author must be specified in a co-

               authored article;

       ( 3 )  An abstract containing no more than 400 words in English and 500 characters in

               Chinese;

       ( 4 )  Up to five keywords.

Articles written in Chinese must supply the above four items of information in both Chinese and English.

5.

Types of articles

       ( 1 )  Research Articles are full-length research articles that are original and make                            theoretical contributions in psychology. The types of articles accepted for                                submission include empirical research (research using different methods,                                quantitative and qualitative, will be considered), review articles, and case

              reports. The submitted manuscripts should contain a title page, abstract, body of                    the article, references, and tables/figures if necessary. Manuscript length should                      not exceed 20,000 words in Chinese or 8,000 words in English.

      ( 2 )Research Reports aim to make empirical or theoretical contributions. The types of                  reports accepted for submission include (a) research that makes important                              discoveries but smaller or narrower in scope compared to a Research Article, and                 (b) replication studies that provide additional evidence either for or against a                            particular theory or a previous finding. The submitted manuscripts should consist                    of a title page, abstract, body of the article, references, and tables and figures if                     necessary. Manuscript length should not exceed 10,000 words in Chinese or 5,000               words in English.

     ( 3 )Registered Reports can be either original research or replication studies. The goal                 is to pre-register a proposed research through the process of peer review prior to

           the research being conducted to reduce the publication bias. The review process                   involves two stages.

           First, the authors should submit a proposal consisting of an introduction, literature                   review with hypotheses, and research method with a detailed analytical plan. In the               case of replication studies, please also include a strong rationale for the                                   replication.The length of the reports should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words in               Chinese or between 3,000 and 5,000 words in English.

           Upon the editor’s approval, the proposal will be evaluated by two peer reviewers. If               the decision is to accept the proposal, the manuscript is in-principle acceptance                     (IPA). The authors can then collect data and conduct the analyses based on the                       proposal. Once the study is concluded, the authors should resubmit the complete                   manuscript that includes the approved proposal (introduction, method, and                             hypotheses), results, and discussion for the second-stage review process. Note that               the research should follow faithfully the proposed method. In the resubmitted                         manuscript, hypotheses cannot be amended or appended. Any deviation from the                 approved proposal could lead to the rejection of the manuscript. Whether or not                     the hypotheses are supported, however, will not affect the publication decision.
